In my hotel in Charlottetown just after at 11:00 am I heard a gun salute fired. I walked towards the source of sound and realized that it was part of the ceremony conducted on Remembrance Day in Canada. Near the Province House an additional ceremony was taking place. In 1864 Province House became a “Birthplace of Canada”.

On my return to the hotel I picked up a day old copy of the local newspaper and read a story about a female Canadian cadet killed on the front lines in Afghanistan. The story made me realize that while President Obama has one of the most difficult decisions for the U.S., the stakes are equally high for U.S. allies and the people of Afghanistan. Quite a few people are paying the ultimate price.

Going forward, creating various deterrents which can avoid boots on ground will be critical to global peace and consequently global prosperity.
